The decision to say goodbye is always made out of love, and you don't have to face it alone.

A peaceful goodbye in the place they feel most comfortable.

Saying goodbye to a beloved pet is one of the hardest moments we face as animal owners. Our goal is always to make this experience as gentle, peaceful, and supported as possible.

In-home euthanasia allows your pet to remain in the comfort of their familiar space, surrounded by the people who love them. There are no stressful car rides or unfamiliar exam rooms. Just quiet, compassionate care in the place they know best.

Our team moves slowly, explains each step, and gives your family the time and space you need.

When It Might Be Time

It can be difficult to know when it might be time to say goodbye. Often there is not one single moment that makes the decision clear. Instead, it may be a gradual change in comfort, mobility, or enjoyment of daily life. Every pet is different, but you may begin to notice changes in:

Mobility

Your pet may have more difficulty getting up, walking, or moving comfortably. Activities that were once easy, like climbing stairs or going outside, may begin to feel harder.

If you're unsure what these changes might mean for your pet, you're not alone.

Our team offers compassionate quality of life consultations to help you talk through what you're seeing, understand your pet’s condition, and explore what the next steps may look like.

Sometimes families simply need guidance, reassurance, or time to talk through their concerns. We're here to support you and help you navigate those decisions with care.

Comfort

You may notice signs that your pet is less comfortable than before, such as restlessness, difficulty settling, or changes in breathing patterns.

Interest

Many families notice their pet becoming less interested in the activities they once loved. They may sleep more, interact less, or simply seem quieter than usual.

Some pets may lose interest in food or water, or begin eating much less than they used to. Meals or treats that once brought excitement may no longer hold the same interest.

What To Expect with In Home Euthanasia

Every visit is approached with patience, compassion, and respect for your pet and your family. We move at a gentle pace and guide you through each step, so you will always know what to expect.

Arrival and Time to Settle

When we arrive, we will take time to greet you, meet your pet, and help everyone settle in. The visit can take place wherever you and your pet feel most comfortable, whether that is inside your home, outside in the sunshine, or in their favorite spot.

Conversation and Preparation

Before we begin, we will spend time talking with you about the process and answering any questions you may have. We will walk through each step together, so you know what to expect. There is no rushing, you are always welcome to take as much time as you need before moving forward.

Comfortable Sedation

The next step is for your pet to receive a sedative medication through a quick injection in their muscle that allows them to relax and fall into a deep, peaceful sleep. This ensures they are fully comfortable and resting with no pain or anxiety. Your pet will rest quietly while you spend as much time as you need with them, and we will continue at a pace that feels right for you and your family.

Peaceful Passing

Once your pet is fully asleep and comfortable, the next step is to administer the medication that allows them to pass peacefully. This medication is administered through an IV our team will place. Your pet remains deeply relaxed and at rest throughout this step. We will quietly confirm when they have passed.

Time for Your Family

After your pet has passed, we will step away to give your family time and privacy to say goodbye. You are always welcome to spend as much time with your pet as you need. This is also when some families elect to let their other pets visit with the pet who has passed, this is a personal choice that is entirely up to you. We are simply here to support you and your family and offer the opportunity if desired.

Aftercare and Support

If we are assisting with aftercare, we will return with a stretcher and blankets to gently move your pet to our vehicle. You will also receive a care package that includes grief resources and information about supporting children and other pets through loss.

If we are not assisting with aftercare, we can provide a biodegradable wrap called a Care Cradle and can assist with moving your pet to a different location on your property if needed.

Returning Your Pet’s Ashes

If you have chosen private cremation with ashes returned, the family-owned facility we partner with, Johnson Pet Cremation, offers a variety of beautiful urns and memorial items that can be selected before or after the visit.

When ready, we will hand deliver your pet's ashes and clay paw print to your home.

Honoring Your Pet

It's important to us that you know that your pet will always be handled with the utmost care and respect. Not only as veterinary professionals, but also pet owners ourselves, we deeply understand the trust you place in us in these moments, and we honor that responsibility with compassion and dignity.

We also want you to know that if there are any cultural, spiritual, or personal practices you would like us to honor at any point, please let us know. We include space for this in our pre-appointment paperwork so we can prepare and support your family in the ways that feel meaningful to you.

We're here to support you and your pets.

You do not have to navigate this alone. Whether you're certain about the next steps or simply need someone to talk through your concerns with, our team is here to listen and help you make thoughtful decisions for your pet’s comfort and quality of life.
